Matt 6

5"When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to (E)stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners (F)so that they may be seen by men (G)Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

   6"But you, when you pray, (H)go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and (I)your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

   7"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their (J)many words.

   8"So do not be like them; for (K)your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

     9"(L)Pray, then, in this way:

3(C)who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

o        Spiritual Fathers - Paul & Timothy

o        Jesus called us his brothers and sisters:

Matt 12:49And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!

50"For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

o        Our kinship is with God our Father and Jesus our brother and joint heir

Rom 8:16The Spirit Himself (A)testifies with our spirit that we are (B)children of God,

17and if children, (C)heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ,

o        In Heaven -  We are aliens, sojourners.  Our real home is in Heaven.  Jesus went to prepare a room for each one of us!

o        Ps68:5 A (E)father of the fatherless and a (F)judge [a]for the widows,

         Is God in His (G)holy habitation.

      6God (H)makes a home for the lonely;

         He (I)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,

         Only (J)the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

He has a home for us all, when we are prisoners of our own sin, He delivers us.  If our lives are parched - we repent and turn to Him.  Rebellion is wanting it my way - leads to anxiety, leads to distance, inability to hear.  The call is to surrender

o        Our: Jesus did not teach us "my father" - we are called to the fellowship of believers, the household of God, the Church, His family.  Though we are each called to the prayer closet, this is not a do-it-yourself thing

Matt 11:28"(AM)Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

29"Take My yoke upon you and (AN)learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and (AO)YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

30"For (AP)My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

31Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, "(AL)Rabbi, eat."

32But He said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about."

33So the (AM)disciples were saying to one another, "No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?"

34Jesus said to them, "My food is to (AN)do the will of Him who sent Me and to (AO)accomplish His work.

Deuteronomy 8:2-4

2"(A)You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has (B)led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, (C)testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

3"He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that (D)man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.

This is His Word!

Matt 16:19"I will give you (C)the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and (D)whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."

o        My day is markedly different when I seek Him for this request!  I have the grace when I ask for it!  They days I do not ask, it does not go as well!

      1He who dwells in the (A)shelter of the Most High

         Will abide in the (B)shadow of the Almighty.

      2I will say to the LORD, "My (C)refuge and my (D)fortress,

         My God, in whom I (E)trust!"

      3For it is He who delivers you from the (F)snare of the trapper

         And from the deadly (G)pestilence.

      4He will (H)cover you with His pinions,

         And (I)under His wings you may seek refuge;

         His (J)faithfulness is a (K)shield and bulwark.

      5You (L)will not be afraid of the (M)terror by night,

         Or of the (N)arrow that flies by day;

      6Of the (O)pestilence that stalks in darkness,

         Or of the (P)destruction that lays waste at noon.

      14"(Y)Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;

         I will (Z)set him securely on high, because he has (AA)known My name.

      15"He will (AB)call upon Me, and I will answer him;

         I will be with him in trouble;

         I will rescue him and (AC)honor him.

      16"With a (AD)long life I will satisfy him

         And (AE)let him see My salvation."

o        More potent evil: My heart!  Deliver me from the evil of my own heart!

o        Matt 15:

19"(B)For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders

Let's pray together - not rote, not by memory, but by relationship:

Our Father who is in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come

Your will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen
